Be thankful you’re eating something today

April 22nd, 2008 1:57 pm by aldrinv

The photo is the 1994 Pulitzer Prize winning photo taken in 1994 during the Sudan Famine. The picture depicts stricken child crawling towards a United Nations food camp, located a kilometer away.

Some people should be thankful that they are able to eat something today. They must know that some people (particularly children) don’t, because they can’t. This photo taken by Kevin Carter (1994 Pulitzer Prize winner) somehow explains it all, after a few months of taking this photo, Carter was said to have committed suicide due to depression, probably because of what he saw in the photo’s actual environment. Here’s a powerpoint presentation featuring more photos of related causes, click HERE

Punishment on Cebu hospital OR staff

April 22nd, 2008 2:07 am by aldrinv

Just heard this from news and other blogs who are concerned with the recent ‘laughing on the patient’s vulnerability’ incident that the medical personnel (surgeons are operating room nurses) have been “punsihed” by the Vicente Sotto Medical Center in Cebu, Philippines. They were only removed from the hospital, with their licenses remain intact. I don’t know if this is really true and validated, but as what I understood from the news on television that they were removed from the hospital, like “fired.” Read the rest of this entry »

Batman: Gotham Knight animation soon on DVD

Produced by the recent Batman Begins and the upcoming The Dark Knight, and by Warner Brothers, they were able to come up with 6 short but related animation series of the DC comic Batman which I believe created by different artists and animators. At first I thought it was a solo movie (like to be shown on movie theaters and to be pirated and sold on the market) but it turns out like the Animatrix (am I right? the title sounded like it), which then inspired from the blockbuster The Matrix (trilogy), that I found very brutal and violent, some made me sad since it came to my mind that time will come that the said animation will come true.. but I expect this (Batman: Gotham Knight) animation to be the same.. since he IS Batman.

No card no rice policy

April 21st, 2008 7:04 pm by aldrinv

It’s not the official name or term given by the government agencies responsible for selling cheaper 2-3 kilos of rice to most Filipinos, but this is what I think will happen if they will require each family (or family member) a family card before purchasing the ever famous “affordable” NFA rice (which I think will soon be expensive too).

I do not agree with such policy, since it will again encourage the “creativity” among pirates and those who take advantage of other people’s ignorance and desperation. In short, expect to have fake family cards. This is how Filipino creativity used or consumed by the “dark side”, it’s just too good to be true that almost no one noticed that it will be the end of them soon. But the slightly bright side of it, it will somehow regulate the distribution and selling of the NFA rice to the poor (even those who are not poor are starting to buy this affordable rice, although I have no definite idea in terms of its quality).

I hope what they’re doing is right. This wouldn’t have happened in the first place if it weren’t for their negligence, or even climate change.
